The Tour 

You will travel to one of the places with the greatest diversity of sea fauna at the South Pacific coast, the frontiers of Coquimbo´s Green North region, the origins of the driest desert of the world: the Atacama, and the rise up of the upwelling Humboldt Current. We will drive through attractive coastal landscapes and settlements of ancient shepherds, miners, farmers, and brave descendants of indigenous fishermens and pirates, arriving to the coast of the most experienced and long-standing artisanal fishermen, divers, and seaweed collectors in Chile: Los Changos “blood drinkers”, Choros and Camanchacas. We will navigate the borders of the “Seagulls, Choros and Damas islands” to appreciate its beautiful beaches with mythological geomorphology of stone deideties and outstanding diversity of plants and cactus beside its attractive fauna of seabirds, sea otters, sea lions, penguins, dolphins and whales You will discover islands of great beauty with a fascinating past where the first and last indigenous fishing rafts made with sea lion leather were created.

Itinerary
  • Departure from your accommodation in La Serena heading north along the ancient coastal mountain range, crossing the Juan Soldado ravine (Chile’s oldest legend), and the geological sanctuary and hidden smuggler’s port of Caleta Hornos.
  • Passing through a famous slope where lived decades and centuries ago feared descendants of indigenous fishermens and pirates to reach Los Choros ravine for a sightseeing and a photo stop of its flora of cacti, fauna of foxes, guanacos, and Coquimbo Green North frontiers with Atacama Desert.
  • Arrival to Punta de Choros for starting the exploration of Atacama coastal desert to see its beautiful beaches and and start the navigation to Chañaral de Aceituno island and whales watching tour.
  • Traditional Lunch Menu (several options of starters, main courses and sides, dessert, and drink).
  • Stop in Los Choros village, an ancient olive tree farming that was an historical XVI century camp site for Pedro de Valdivias´s chilean conquest expedition.
  • Return to La Serena (17:30h/18:00h)
