The Tour
Pangue Observatory is one of the best places in the Southern hemisphere to see the night sky and surprising stellar objects thanks to its advanced and specialized guides, telescopes, filters, and eyepieces, as well as its clear, dry, bright, and transparent skies. Located in the Elqui Mountains at 1,500 meters above sea level, in a dark-sky sanctuary and a worldwide astronomical hotspot, due to the presence in the area of pioneer scientific observatories like Tololo, Gemini, Soar, and the new Vera Rubin Very Large Synoptic Telescope (the world’s most powerful digital camera). Pangue offers to its visitors—connoisseurs, beginners, and specialists —unforgettable and very detailed views of several astronomical events of our galaxy and the deep space thanks to its privileged location, experienced guides, and modern equipment and telescopes (25″ and 16″). The area is considered one of the best places in the world for studying the cosmos, so on in an exclusive, specialized, and personalized tour, you’ll enjoy a very unique moment observing the center of our galaxy, the southern skies, nebulae, clusters, galaxies, comets, planets, dual stars, massive blue stars, red dwarfs, and more.
Itinerary
- Departure from La Serena to the Elqui Valley and Vicuña city to enjoy a brief free time in its picturesque plaza before the journey to Pangue Observatory through the Antakari Route. (25 minutes drive).
- Entrance to a world-class astronomical hotspot, the “Gabriela Mistral Dark Sky Sanctuary.” Views of the Tololo, Gemini, Soar, and Rubin scientific Observatories.
- Arrival at El Pangue Observatory to start the astronomical and stargazing tour for 2 hours, observing several stellar objects with 25″ or 16″ telescopes, identifying planets, galaxies, clusters, red dwarfs, blue giants, nebulae, and supernova remnants, among others. Return to La Serena.
Tour includes: Transfers, guide, ticket, and observation through 25″ or 16″ telescopes. Departure from La Serena at 5:30/6:30 PM (Duration: 6 hours).
