Tour Description

You will discover one of the areas with major diversity of species on the South Pacific coast “the frontiers of Coquimbo´s Green North region and the beginnings of the driest desert in the world: the Atacama.” We will travel through attractive landscapes and settlements of ancient shepherds, miners and farmers until reaching the coast of the most experienced and long-standing artisanal fishermen, divers and sew weed collectors in Chile: Los Changos “red skin blood drinkers”, Choros and Camanchacas.” We will sail and navigate the borders of the islands Seagulls, Choros and Damas to appreciate its beautiful beaches, its enigmatic geomorphology of mythological sea gods of stone and its outstanding diversity of plants and cactus beside its attractive fauna of humboldt penguins, seabirds, otters, sealions, whales and dolphins. You will discover islands of great beauty with a fascinating prehistory that gave life to the first and last indigenous fishing rafts made with sealion skin.

Itinerary
  • Departure from La Serena to the north with views of Juan Soldado mountain and ravine (Chile’s oldest legend) and the coastal geological sanctuary of Caleta Hornos.
  • Stop in Quebrada Los Choros at the frontiers of Coquimbo Green north region with the Atacama deserts to see its native desert cactus flora and fauna of guanacos, foxes, land birds and raptors. After that we will pass through Los Choros, an ancient olive tree farming village that was an historical XVI camp site for Pedro de Valdivia´s spanish conquistadors expedition.
  • Arrival to Punta de Choros to start the Damas island navigation and sightseeing tour through the islands of the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve (at the moment Damas island is not open for landing). Optional tour: Navigation to Chañaral de Aceituno island from its homonymus and picturesque fishermen cove (20km north Punta de Choros)
  • Lunch Menu of Traditions in Punta de Choros: Several options of entrances, main courses (with sides), dessert and drinks to choose are included (glass of wine, water, nectar or drink).
  • Return to La Serena.

*Tour requires a minimum of passengers and navigation subject to weather conditions (wind and tides). 

*Tour lasts 10 hours approximately. Landing in Damas island is not allowed until its new opening.
